Overview
ScreenPal is an application for macOS and Windows that records your screen, webcam, and/or microphone. You can record a PowerPoint, or demonstrate a tool directly from your computer. When you’re finished, save the recording to your desktop, then publish it on YouTube or on another video publishing site. In March 2023, Screencast-O-Matic rebranded to ScreenPal. Refer to ScreenPal’s Transition FAQ for more information.
These videos are your responsibility to maintain and manage. These videos can be set as a link within Canvas for student viewing either by individual videos or a catalog stream.
Usage Note
- Be mindful about what you are recording
Be careful not to record FERPA protected, or HIPAA/Protected Health Information (PHI) data. When the recording interface loads, there is a dashed box that indicates the recording area. This box can be adjusted so that just a portion of the screen is captured. If you do record something sensitive, use the ScreenPal editor’s Overlay Blur tool to obscure it in the recording.

Downloading and Installing ScreenPal
- Go to https://screenpal.com/neomed and log in with your NEOMED account. The ScreenPal - Northeast Ohio Medical University page appears.
- In the upper right, select your initials. In the menu that appears, confirm that it says "Team Member" under your name.
- If the menu says "Free User", visit https://screenpal.com/neomed again. After that, if the menu still says Free User, select Sign Out and return to step 1.
- On the ScreenPal - Northeast Ohio Medical University page, select the checkbox next to "I agree to the Terms of Service."
- Select Launch Recorder:
- At the bottom of the window, select Download app and follow the prompts.
- When the installation is complete, return to https://screenpal.com/neomed and select Launch Recorder.
