NBME Secure Browser Troubleshooting

Overview

The following article outlines steps to take when experiencing issues launching the NBME Secure Browser.

Mac Devices

Step 1: Use Safari as Your Default Browser

  1. Go to System Settings → Desktop & Dock.
  2. Find Default Web Browser and choose Safari.

Step 2: Remove Extra Downloads

  1. Open your Downloads folder.
  2. Delete all copies of the NBME Secure Browser except the first (oldest) one.

Step 3: Turn Off Anti-virus

If you have any antivirus or security software running, quit or pause it before installing or using the Secure Browser. Then restart your computer.

Step 4: Move It to Applications

  1. Find the NBME Secure Browser file in your Downloads folder.
  2. Drag it into your Applications folder.
  3. Always open and use it from Applications (not from Downloads).

Step 5: If It Still Doesn’t Work

  1. Create a new user profile:
    • Go to System Settings → Users & Groups → Add Account (+).
    • Create a new Admin or Guest Admin account.
  2. Log into that new account.
  3. Open Safari and download the NBME Secure Browser once.
  4. If it still won’t open, drag it into the Applications folder and try again.
