Accessing Network Shares/Drives

Overview 

Some areas store content internal to the university which are stored on an internal portion of the university's network. To access these drives, you will need to complete a couple of steps. 

Prerequisites

Your NEOMED-issued device must be on the faculty/staff network (wireless or hardwired) or connected via the NEOMED VPN to access these networked drives.

Steps 

Windows

  1. First, ensure you are either on the wired University network, Faculty/staff wireless, or using the NEOMED VPN from an off-campus location.
  2. Open File Explorer: Click on the folder icon on the taskbar or press Windows key + E to open File Explorer.
  3. Click on This PC (not Network.)
    • If you see a message box stating, "Network discovery is turned off. Network computers and devices are not visible. Please turn on network discovery in Network and Sharing Center," you are clicking on the wrong icon. Please select This PC.
  4. WIthin This PC, you should see the S and P drives. Depending on your department, you may need to map different network shares. Please see here for more information on Mapping Networked Drives.

MacOS

  1. First, ensure you are either on the wired University network, Faculty/staff wireless, or using the NEOMED VPN from an off-campus location.
  2. Click the Finder icon in your dock. You can also click anywhere on a blank part of your desktop and ensure that Finder is displayed in the upper left hand corner next to the Apple icon.
  3. If you have previously mapped network drives, you should see the below folders under Locations in the left hand column. If you do not see them there, Please see here for more information on Mapping Networked Drives.
    1. fs2 (this is the S: drive)
    2. fs3 (this is the P: drive)
  4. Click on the drive you would like to connect to and then navigate to the appropriate subfolder:
    1. For fs2, click on staff
    2. For fs3, click on projects

Not Seeing the Networked Drives?

  • Please ensure your NEOMED-issued device is connected to the faculty/staff network (wireless or hardwired) or connected via the NEOMED VPN. 
  • If you are still having difficulty, please submit a Shared Drive Service Request
