How to Check Your macOS Version

Method 1: Using the Apple Menu (Easiest) 

  1. Click the Apple menu in the top-left corner of your screen. 
  2. Select About This Mac. 
  3. A window will open displaying: 
    1. The macOS name (for example, macOS Sonoma, Ventura, or Sequoia). 
    2. The version number. 

Method 2: Using System Settings 

  1. Click the Apple menu. 
  2. Select System Settings. 
  3. Click General in the sidebar. 
  4. Select About. 
  5. View the macOS version information. 

Currently Supported macOS Versions 

Apple currently provides security updates for the following macOS versions: 

  • macOS Tahoe (26.x) - Current version

  • macOS Sequoia (15.x)

  • macOS Sonoma (14.x) 

If your Mac is running an older version of macOS, it may no longer receive security and stability updates from Apple nor be able to access university resources. Running an unsupported version can increase the risk of security vulnerabilities and software compatibility issues. 

You may experience issues such as: 

  • Inability to install or update applications or access the Internet on NEOMED-issued devices.

  • Compatibility problems with Microsoft 365, web browsers, and other business-critical software. 

  • Missing security updates that help protect your device and data. 

  • Reduced support from software vendors and IT. 

  • Features and services that may no longer function as expected. 

  • New applications or application updates require a newer version of macOS before they can be installed. 

To help ensure your Mac remains secure, reliable, and compatible with current applications, we recommend upgrading to the latest supported version of macOS available for your device.
