Using Cisco Jabber to Make/Receive Calls via your Computer

Introduction

Cisco Jabber allows you to make and receive phone calls using your NEOMED-issued computer, whether on or off campus. If you use Jabber, you will not have to forward your phone - it will ring on your computer, provided you are connected to VPN.

How to Get Started

There are a couple of steps to get set up with Cisco Jabber:

  1. Request an account. You will also have to request VPN access if you do not already have that.
  2. IT will also need to install the Jabber software on your NEOMED computer.

Using Jabber

  • If remote, connect to the NEOMED VPN.
  • Open the Cisco Jabber app, then enter your username (without the @neomed.edu) and password.
  • The main Jabber screen will load.

  • To make a call, click the keypad button next to the search box to dial a number - you must dial 9 to get an outside line like you do from your desk phone.
  • When a call comes in, you will get a notification from Jabber allowing you to answer or decline:

  • If you do not get this notification, check your Settings (the gear at the top right of your screen)

  • Select Settings, then Notifications. Ensure that All incoming calls is checked.
