Before Your NEOMED Email is Closed
Once your NEOMED email has been closed, you will no longer be able to:
- Send emails from your NEOMED email address (@neomed.edu);
- Receive emails sent to your NEOMED email address; and
- Access emails you sent or received in the past.
If you need a copy of any emails you sent or received, you’ll want to take steps to save them somewhere else before your email is closed.
If you gave your NEOMED email address as the contact or account recovery email for personal or business accounts such as Facebook, Gmail, bank accounts, etc.:
- It’s important that you update the email address associated with those accounts to something other than your NEOMED email address as soon as possible.
- If you do not, you may find that you are unable to update, reset the password, or perform any action for which that account requires you to confirm your identity by responding to an email they sent to your NEOMED email address.
- Should you find yourself in that situation, you will need to work directly with the company involved to have your email address updated in their system. NEOMED’s licensing agreement with Microsoft prevents us from reopening your NEOMED email unless your affiliation with the University changes and again qualifies you for access.
Before You Lose Access to Microsoft 365 Applications
Once you lose access to Microsoft 365 apps, you will lose access to any files and information saved in applications like Teams, OneNote, OneDrive, and SharePoint.
To avoid losing work saved within any of these programs, you must transfer all files you wish to save to personal accounts or devices before your access expires. To learn how:
If you need similar software for personal use:
- Free, basic versions of Microsoft applications are available. You will need to sign up for a personal Microsoft Account to access these applications. By signing up for a personal Microsoft account, you will have access to free, browser-based versions of Word, Excel, OneNote and PowerPoint as well as up to 5GB of OneDrive storage.
- Purchase a personal subscription from Microsoft, Google or other cloud productivity service providers.
- Depending on how much data you have, free accounts may not accommodate your data storage needs; therefore, paid services may help you accommodate your storage size.
- Use other free software such as Google (Google Docs/Sheets/Slides) or OpenOffice to access/work with Office documents.
IMPORTANT: Please do not use your NEOMED email address if purchasing a personal Microsoft 365 subscription and/or using Google Docs. Future changes to Microsoft licensing requirements could result in authentication issues.
What if I Have Already Lost Access?
If you’ve already lost access to your NEOMED email or Microsoft 365 apps, there’s a limited window of time within which you may be able to retrieve emails or files associated with those applications. To learn more, see I've Lost Access to My NEOMED Account - Can I Get it Back?
